Matrix-independent determination of C and N at trace levels

Experience matrix-independent, low-level nitrogen and carbon concentration measurements in solids and liquids with the UNICUBE trace. This elemental analyzer utilizes safe, user- and eco-friendly high-temperature combustion according to Dumas. It offers fast (5 min.), highly sensitive carbon and nitrogen analysis at a detection limit of 10 µg/g or 10 ppm. The UNICUBE trace is optimized for unattended, high-throughput analysis and stands for highest sample flexibility in trace carbon and nitrogen analysis.

Highlights of the UNICUBE trace

Precise trace analysis of carbon and nitrogen

made possible by a highly sensitive detector and high upper sample size limits

Reliable, matrix-independent results

thanks to blank-free sample introduction and jet-injection of oxygen

High sample throughput

for up to 300 analyses per day due to fast analysis (5 min.) and easy maintenance

Great sample flexibility

for a wide range of sample weights for both solid and liquid samples

Features

Precise trace carbon and nitrogen analysis thanks to a highly sensitive detector

The UNICUBE trace offers nitrogen and carbon determination by high-temperature combustion according to Dumas via a thermal conductivity detector (TCD). This TCD has been tuned for highest sensitivity, resulting in an analyzer that can quantify trace carbon and nitrogen with a detection limit of 10 µg/g or 10 ppm for unrivaled sensitivity.

Reliable results due to blank-free sample introduction and jet-injection of oxygen

Reliable results are a given with the UNICUBE trace. This is achieved by a blank-free sample introduction via our patented ball valve, and the jet-injection of oxygen directly to the point of combustion which ensures complete conversion of the sample to measuring gas – a prerequisite for highly precise and matrix-independent elemental analysis.

High sample throughput thanks to fast analysis and easy maintenance

The UNICUBE trace offers fast carbon and nitrogen determination at trace level in five minutes. Its 120 position autosampler, which is reloadable at any time, offers automated analysis of up to 300 sample measurements per day with unattended 24/7 operation. Thanks to the long-lasting calibration and the large ash finger of the UNICUBE trace, maintenance intervals are extremely long, resulting in high system uptime and high sample throughput. Our user-friendly clamp connections ensure a tool-free maintenance experience. Additionally, the slide-out furnace guarantees easy accessibility and a comfortable working posture.

Great sample flexibility thanks to direct Temperature Programmed Desorption (direct TPD) technology

Through the use of our direct TPD technology, which stands for highest reliability and performance in gas separation, and in combination with the most powerful detector on the market, the UNICUBE trace offers great sample flexibility. The direct TPD technology guarantees a large dynamic measurement range, enabling the analysis of samples with C:N elemental ratios of up to 12,000:1 with reliable baseline separation.

Future-proof thanks to 10 years guarantee

Thanks to the outstanding robustness and longevity of our UNICUBE trace, we grant a 10-year guarantee on the high-temperature combustion furnace and the thermal conductivity detector cell of the thermal conductivity detector (TCD). With our long-term oriented dedication to technical support, we provide spare parts for a minimum of 10 years. This results in outstanding low total cost of ownership, giving you confidence in return of investment.

Product details

The UNICUBE trace is optimized for the analysis of:

  • CN

Weighing range

Large weighing range spanning from micro (< 1 mg) to macro (around 1 g of soil) applications and up to 15 mg of organic matter.

Element concentration range

Largest dynamic range of element concentrations:
C: up to 50 mg absolute or 10 ppm - 100 %
N: up to 10 mg absolute or 10 ppm -100 %

Precision

< 0.1 % absolute (homogeneous substance), depending on sample type, analysis mode, and configuration

Analysis time

~ 5 min, self-optimizing depending on element content and sample weight. Depending on sample type, analysis mode, and configuration.

High-temperature combustion unit:
Complete sample digestion at up to 1,200 °C (or 1,800 °C at the point of combustion when tin foil is used) with a ten-year furnace warranty. A jet injection of oxygen directly to the sample leads to the highest oxygen concentrations at the point of combustion, as well as low gas consumption. 100 % recovery is guaranteed even for samples, that are traditionally hard to combust.

Purge and trap chromatography:
While N as N2 travels directly to the thermal conductivity detector (TCD), C as CO2 is trapped on our TPD column. Only once the nitrogen peak reaches baseline, the column is heated rapidly and CO2 travels to the detector. This results in perfect peak separation without overlap, and automatic optimization of the analysis time.
