This presentation from Dr. Marco Lauteri, Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche Istituto, explores the ecology of Ailanthus altissima (tree of heaven) through the lens of stable isotope analysis. By combining carbon and nitrogen isotope measurements with environmental DNA analysis, the research reveals how mycorrhizal associations influence photosynthesis, nutrient uptake, and soil microbial communities. Drawing on field studies from several Mediterranean sites, the findings provide new insights into the role of plant–microbe interactions in the success of invasive species and their impact on native ecosystems.
