Securing traffic by testing the bridge steel
Testing rail and road bridges is crucial to the safety and reliability of transportation. Bridges are critical infrastructure components that need to be regularly checked and maintained in order to safeguard their stability and load-bearing capacity. According to the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV), modernizing and maintaining bridges is a major priority in order to increase transport safety and prevent long-term damage.
Differentiating between steels is an essential part of bridge testing, as different types of steel have different mechanical and chemical properties. These properties have an impact on strength and corrosion resistance, and thus on a bridge’s load-bearing capacity and service life.
